Curb Magazine
BRIEF
GET a team of 22 fellow journalists
WHO were “hired” to create a magazine from scratch
TO produce and fund a publication for an audience of UW-Madison graduates
BY creating original content, ensuring deadlines are met and fundraising as a team
THE IDEA
The vision for this magazine was meant to bring to light the various theories of darkness, contrasting the sinister and villainous notions with the peaceful and curious ones. We wanted to challenge the ideas that darkness is not strictly bad, but makes room for good for those who have their eyes open to seeing it this way.
CONTENT
Maya's feature story, “Our Own Little Chapel,” is about the strength of community that was demonstrated when a retreat center in the heart of Wisconsin lost their chapel due to a catastrophic structure fire. The story is now nominated for Best Soft Feature Story by the Wisconsin Broadcast Association.
Her online article, “How to Taste Chocolate Like a Professional Chocolatier” shows a step-by-step process on how you can turn a favorite treat into an experience.
Finally, for their multimedia piece, the Maya and her colleague took advantage of their love for dancing and documented their experience at a Bachata lesson at the Brink Lounge in Madison. Watch "Bachata After Hours" to get an inside scoop on why people dedicate these evening hours to swinging their hips to a syncopated rhythm. It’s Bachata time!
RESULTS
In the end, we funded and distributed 10,000 copies of Curb: Out of the Dark all around Wisconsin and exceeded our fundraising goal to get our project through production.
